VCSEL Design Engineer-Customer Facing

Job Description

Join the team as we build and start manufacturing in our new facility in Allen, Texas where we will produce vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) used in Apple's iPhone camera to allow features such as Face ID, Animoji and Portrait mode selfies. What are VCSELs? It's an acronym that is pronounced "vixels" - they are small semiconductor devices that emit light vertically and enable 3D sensing.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Design VCSEL arrays for high power sensing applications

Work with customers and analyze optical systems to determine performance requirements

Manage experiments varying VCSEL design and characterize components to optimize performance

Develop characterization techniques and systems to measure device performance

Manage design projects to meet performance, reliability and schedule requirements.

Collaborate with the Epi and Fab Development teams to introduce improved process platforms

Support VCSEL manufacturing with data analysis to troubleshoot problem areas and improve yield and manufacturability

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with laboratory characterization of VCSELs

Experience with laser simulation software (Example: Lasermod, etc).

Expertise in optical beam formation and propagation in semiconductor laser systems

The successful candidate will be innovative, use statistical thinking in decision-making, and be self-motivated, influential and persistent.

Strong interpersonal/teaming skills, able to communicate effectively with employees from all levels of the organization.

Proficiency in software packages and statistical methodologies

Three to five years industrial experience in electro-optical devices.

M.S. degree or equivalent experience
