In the early ‘90s our founders pioneered the visualization of intelligence information on a web-based geospatial platform. Faced with increased demand from organizations looking to make time-sensitive decisions, we asked ourselves, “Why not give our clients access to the data so that they can do their own studies?” Drawing on our experience and industry expertise we developed a platform to allow “self-serve.” We made it simple to allow for ease-of-use. We made it agile, to allow clients to upload their own data. And we made it available as a service on the web to allow for easy access. We soon attracted the attention of the federal government and other organizations that wanted to share information and collaborate.

The terrorist attack on 9/11 marked a turning point for iMapData and opened the door for our entry into the government marketplace. Government agencies responsible for national security and terrorism protection needed a common operating platform for information sharing and data analysis. We provided the Critical Infrastructure Management System, a cloud-based geo-spatial platform, which was deployed across 17,000 federal, state, and local law enforcement users. We worked side-by-side with intelligence analysts to define and create the tools needed to support the mission of the Department of Justice, including the FBI, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, the Intelligence Community and the Executive Branch.

Our entry into the government marketplace focused our company’s mission on providing the most comprehensive and flexible global security solution to our government and commercial clients. We expanded our data collection efforts to include real-time data collection and continuous updates from public and private sources, continuous monitoring and evaluation of both social media and news media, as well as 24x7x365 monitoring of all threats through our Risk Assessment Center
