Job Description

Responsible for proper user access to network domain, network shares, groups and systems, always following the hospital and departmental security policies and procedures.

Monitors the network performance and vital metrics on the pathology systems to ensure proper operation.

Troubleshoots hardware and software issues on pathology computers, as well as peripherals like printers, scanners, etc.

Serves as on call contact.

Coordinates software and/or hardware migrations or moves with the hospital IS team and oversees the process to guarantee successful completion.

* Identifies and researches network requirements of new systems the department is interested in using.
* Works with Information Security to help assess security threats and vulnerabilities of new and current systems and processes.
* Ensures the successful operation of Pathology systems and all applications; monitors and maintains system's functionality; fields problem calls from users and determines most appropriate means of resolution; coordinates efforts with outside technicians and Help Desk as necessary; acts as liaison with other department, Information System and external vendors as needed to resolve problems.
* Collaborates with users to design and implement databases for specific clinical, research, and administrative needs; customizes databases to specific user specifications and needs; ensures that requested data is present, valid, and accessible in a form which is appropriate to meet users' expressed purposes and needs; ensures databases (e.g., CoPath) contains necessary information, are user-friendly, and can generate reports.
* Ensures the availability of equipment and software to meet the needs of the Pathology Department within fiscal guidelines
* Maintains inventory of all departmental computer equipment including all hardware, peripherals and software.
* Reviews individual requests for new products; collaborates with users to evaluate requests and selects new hardware/software; makes recommendations for purchase; informs users of inappropriate requests and determines alternatives.
* Examines, installs and tests all equipment/software after they are received.
* Obtains approvals, initiates purchase orders for remittance to IS Purchasing for all departmental technical support equipment and software.
* Updates existing/tests new hardware (e.g., PC & Mac computers, laser and thermal printers, paper scanners, barcode scanners, slide scanners, video-static microscopic cameras)
* Maintains excellent knowledge of existing operating systems and software (Windows 7-10, Mac OS, MS-Office 07-360, File Maker Pro, CoPath, Photo shop, Dragon voice recognition, network protocols:TCP/IP)

Education

Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field preferred
