Network Engineers help ensure the integrity of network infrastructure. They also create and develop network systems to fit an organization’s needs. Network Engineers may oversee the maintenance of an entire network (in smaller local area networks) or only a part of the system (with WANs or Intranets). Other possible responsibilities include implementing new solutions, maximizing the efficiency of data flow, scheduling upgrades, monitoring access and setting up firewalls.
Network Engineers work in different industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), tech, telecommunication and finance made up some of the largest employers in 2016. Most Network Engineers typically work in offices alongside other IT professionals such as systems analysts and network administrators.
