Backend Engineers are responsible for working on the data access layer of software programs or the physical infrastructure of a piece of hardware. The backend refers to the server side of an application. Backend Engineers must be seasoned experts in their field. Their main focuses are on data transformation, security concerns, authentication and authorization, backup methods and software, scalability and database administration. They must be able to work individually and as part of a team to contribute ideas and help improve operations.
Backend Engineers are responsible for building software in Java, Ruby and Scala, designing and creating system architecture and services, helping to improve code quality and working with product and design teams. Backend Engineers must have at least two years of hands-on coding and software design experience. They must be proficient in scripting languages like PHP, Ruby, Perl and Python and have experience with Java, Linux and Unix. Backend Engineers should also be knowledgeable in software design and OOP.
