Solutions Engineers are network engineers who specialize in solving problems that occur with hardware or software. These problems are usually centered around customers who want to accomplish a given task and their network technology is currently not sufficient. When this occurs, Solutions Engineers will work with an entire team to design and implement a unique solution for the customer they are dealing with. As such, in addition to strong computer skills, they must also have excellent communication skills as well.

Solutions Engineers are also often the first point of contact and may be required to help de-escalate a situation when customer expectations are not met. On the other side of the spectrum, Solutions Engineers are usually required to help train customers directly with a new network or solution that has been provided. Because all of this is very technical and detail intensive, a four-year degree in computer science or similiar field is required by most companies.
