Backend Engineer Job Description

Backend engineers are developers that work with the physical hardware, infrastructure or the data access of software. They write code that communicates the information in the database to the browser, which serves a variety of clients and users. With a keen understanding of Ruby, Python, Java and other backend languages, they have the ability to test and problem solve software applications. Backend engineers use their knowledge of SQL and databases to improve performance and build APIs that work with frontend apps, and help create benchmarks within the system. These candidates understand UNIX, and can work with high-level paradigms that include functional programming, OOP and others. Backend engineers also have the ability to deal with large-scale data and go beyond hardware capabilities for optimal performance. Good oral and written communication skills are a must for working with design and engineering teams.
